Mater Dei Institution, the second
oldest English medium school in Goa, founded by the late Principal
Anacleto F.X. lobo, held the inauguration of its Centenary Celebrations
on the 12th of July 2009. Information on the web site in the Centenary
year will give you an idea of some major events, which are going
to help make it a memorable year of reflection and celebration.
The school history section of our web site will evolve into an
archive of photos and information. If you are a past student and
would like something posted (e.g. old photos or text or contact
information for past school mates) please contact us and we’ll see

The Management, together with the Centenary
Committees, the ex-alumni, staff, students and parents is working
hard to ensure this is a grand year of learning and celebration. There
is still time for you to offer your help for the Big Year. If you
are a past scholar, parent or staff member or know of some one who
is, please contact the school to register your interest.

The Centenary Celebrations of Mater
Dei Institution, Saligao, the second oldest English medium school
in Goa, kicked off to a flying start on the 11th July’09 the eve
of the anniversary of the Foundation Day.
A Eucharistic Celebration at the Saligao Church at 5:30 p.m. was
attended in large numbers by the school students, ex-alumni, parents
and well-wishers. The Service ended with the mellifluous rendering
of Bach’s ‘Ave Maria’ on the violinby 8 year- old Gloria Deshmukh,
a student of the school, and the school choir singing the school
hymn.
This was followed by a Marche aux Flambeaux in the tradition of
the school, with the school students carry- ing blue and white lanterns,
the colours of the school, in a procession from the church to the
school, singing to the accompaniment of a brass band, and finally
culminating on the school campus where the Police Band was in attendance.
The illumination of the school , the lusty singing of the school
anthem and cheers, a burst of crackers and a fireworks displayheralded
the Centenary Celebrations.
